ALFAPASS : Welcome to the new Alfapass website.

In November 2008 Alfapass made available a customer application that allows you to manage your Alfapass cards yourself. You can now apply and even pay for your cards electronically. It now only takes a few hours to process your request, whereas in the past it used to take 2 to 3 weeks on average. ALFAPASS : a unique , efficient access control system to the ports of Antwerp and Zeebrugge.

 The initiatives for the security of the transport chain have accelerated rapidly since 9/11, not only for aviation, but also for the shipping industry. Concerning the latter, security is regarded both for the access of ships as for the protection of the port terminals.

One of the aspects of the access control of the Port Facilities is the unique identification of persons. To avoid that those persons who visit different port facilities on a regular basis (so-called frequent visitors) have to present a different pass for each company, one all-covering ID-card is the solution.

The number of frequent visitors is estimated at about 20 to 30.000. Herein are included: 8.000 dockworkers, 10 to 15.000 truck drivers, the personnel of the port facilities and all other frequent visitors such as shipbroker's clerks, quay-forwarders, ship chandlers, dock pilots, shipping agents...

Given the importance for the entire port community ALFAPORT ANTWERPEN and CEPA, as representatives of this community, together with SEAGHA established the partnership ALFAPASS. This new organization will vouch for the basic investment, will issue the ID-card and will also run and manage the card system. The ALFAPASS card itself will be paid for by the applicant and will be valid for a period of 5 years. The card offers the frequent visitor the advantage that his visits will be handled much more smoothly than those of an occasional visitor that doesn't disposes over an ALFAPASS card.

On top of that, with the system the terminal operator has a full overview of all persons present on the terminal, which ultimately is the intention of the ISPS-code. In this respect it is of extreme importance to stress the fact that it are the Port Facilities that remain responsible themselves at all times for the granting of and managing of access rights to their accommodations.
